During a trip to France, we found a few great drachma coins, both from the Gaul region. The one coin hails from the Massalia area (now Marseilles) of France. The face is the image of a lion & the reverse side, the eroded remains of the head of Artemis. The 2nd drachma is from the 'Volques Tectosages' or Toulouse area of France. The face of the coin just has partial imagery while the reverse has 4 'rays' representing 4 cantons or tribes. We've teamed these 2 coins with one from the ancient city of Himera in Sicily. While one side of the coin is wonderfully eroded (face of a nymph), the other side has the image of laurel. We've created a coin 'cluster' and mounted on a heavy silver figaro 24" chain. Two of the coins are mounted on an O ring allowing a slight drop from the other coin mounted directly on the chain. The French coins are cast in aged silver while the Sicilian coin is cast in bronze. All of the coins measure approximately 1/2".
